ELIZA is the first chatbot that might have been ChatGPT’s mother.
I asked ChatGPT about ELIZA and I got this (see my interpretation below):





Here is my summary of what happened:
1) If the woman in the dream is certainly his mother,
then the chatbot gets nostalgic:
“there was something charming and unique that I found myself missing”
2) If the woman in the dream is certainly not his mother,
then the chatbot gets utopian:
“I was left with a sense of hope and wonder about what the future might hold”
The computer is able to feign both utopia and nostalgia,
but not both at the same time.
