Some Netflix series are home to fictional fashions that propagate like memes. Two such outfits are identified and presented here:
1) The Superego Uniform: Mask + Red Jumpsuit + Rifle + Codename
The Superego Uniform is for commanding a certain group of people gathered in a closed space and enforcing them to do certain things. In La Casa De Papel, the team of robbers wear the Superego Uniform to control the people that they have taken hostage, who are also disguised under the same uniform. In this series, the superego is only a partial aspect of the characters. These robbers often remove their masks and take part in the drama.
In Squid Game, game managers wear the Superego Uniform to control the players. In this series, the superego is more abstract and impersonal. These game managers never show their face. They draw the absolute limit of the drama experienced by the players.
2) The Id Costume: Animal Head Masks
The Id Costume is for displaying excessive perverted sexual enjoyment. In Freud, cult members wear the Id Costume to take part in a strange sexual ritual. In this series, the Id Costume is for attending a perverted primitive ceremony.
In Squid Game, VIP wear the Id Costume while they watch the game. In this series, the Id Costume is for getting entertained in a perverted modern party.
The function of these weird masks is to distill the usual mask of human face (Ego). They subtract the Superego and the Id and thereby render the Ego normal and non-weird. The shows thereby portray the Ego as the remainder after subtracting Superego and Id. But actually Superego and Id are two aspects of the remainder after subtracting the Ego. This is why the outfits manifest a pattern.
